Hello Camp Barakel!
There is so much to share of my memories of Camp Barakel. I am now almost 65 years old and I went to Camp Barakel from the time I was 8 years old until into college. I even was a counselor there one year. My mother, Esther Horski used to come up for 2 or 3 weeks at a time to help Hester Johnson cook for the camp kids.
Uncle Johnnie was like Jesus with skin on to me when I was a child. I hung on his every word. When I was 11 years old, I remember seeing a missionary film, Angel in Ebony, in the chapel one Sunday night. That was the night that I dedicated my life to be a missionary. I wrote it down in my little black Bible that night and never forgot my goal. I graduated from high school in Williamston, Michigan and went on to Moody Bible Institute to study the Missionary Bible Course. I met my missionary husband there (that I had prayed for) and we went to Peru, South America as missionaries in June of 1965.
We have been in the ministry now for 41 years together. Presently we work with Kingdom Building Ministries and NeighborHope Ministries here in Denver , Colorado. We now have work in India as well as the USA. We teach people in churches with seminars how to reach out to their non-believing neighbors by having a neighborhood Christmas party and sharing the Gospel in their home at that party, by talking about the "True Meaning of Christmas". We had the honor of writing a book, "When God is the Life of the Party" about this ministry. My husband's name is Norm Wretlind. We have 2 daughters and 8 grandchildren. We have a pastor son-in-law and a doctor son-in-law, all walking with Jesus. Praise Him!
Camp Barakel is always in my memory. The time I spent there was as significant as my own home church growing up as a child and teen. I am so grateful for Uncle Johnnie and the staff there and all the volunteers who have made the camp possible. I know that Uncle Johnnie is going to get a standing ovation as he enters Heaven's gates someday. Please give him my love. He may remember Becky Horski and my sisters Sharon and Nancy and my mother Esther and father Ed Horski. God used him to make a "mark" for Eternity on our lives. THANKYOU!! THANKYOU!! THANKYOU!!
In the joy of serving Jesus,
Becky Horski Wretlind
