Dave and Phyllis joined Barakel’s staff in 1989. Dave serves as director of short-term staffing. Phyllis is our women’s work coordinator and director of housekeeping. Their children are Lydia and Daniel. Calvary Baptist Church of Delaware, Ohio, is their home church. Dave and Phyllis Douglas (November 2009) CAMP HAPPENINGS From the Douglas Family at Camp Barakel Camp Barakel, Where God Has Blessed… In the 1940's a nine year old camper discovered a man in Job 32 who was called "Barakel". The name means "blessed of God." Since the very early days of camp, God's blessing has been evident here; therefore the camper suggested the name "Barakel" for this ministry. Our family has been blessed to be part of this work since 1989, twenty years! Summer was encouraging … Though summer attendance was slightly down from the previous year, campers were thrilled by the new 950 feet long Zipline across Snow Valley; they screamed like crazy as they dangled nearly 100 feet off the ground; they also loved being launched through the air and into the water from the Blob; they sang with zeal and excitement with the camp choruses in chapel; and they were open and responsive to the spiritual counsel from speakers and camp staff.
Fall is fading … Fall retreats have ended and now we pick up from fall and prepare for the winter retreats which begin January first. Dave has already begun corresponding with college-age people about the coming summer season. Join us in prayer regarding this need for the summer of 2010. Around the Douglas home, Lydia is rushing to meet college scholarship deadlines. She leads a high school girls' Bible study every other Friday morning at 7:00. Daniel is a maturing freshman, and enjoys hunting, ping pong and spending time with other staff kids. Phyllis is increasingly busy caring for the staff ladies and scheduling the housekeeping of camp's many buildings. She will soon begin registering teens to work in our summer teenage work program. Dave continues meeting the demands of camp's volunteer staffing programs. He manages camp's biking program, and enjoys cycling in his spare time. Our entire family has recently become involved in helping lead the local youth group on Wednesday evening. What an opportunity to introduce those students to Jesus Christ. Please pray for our family …
* Pray for a fresh and renewed excitement for our work in this ministry even after twenty years.
