Home Camps & Retreats About Us Staff S'More

Kieth and Susan Boeve are the newest members of the Resident Missionary Staff. Kieth serves as our West Side Cook, and Susan assists him in the kitchen. They are a blessing to everyone who comes into the Kitchen and Dining Hall on the West Side. The Boeves are parents to four children ages 10-17.

  (July 22, 2010)

I wish you could be here on a Tuesday afternoon about 2:30 when the campers first arrive.  They walk into the dining hall with the smell of fresh baked cookies and a glass of cold water or milk awaiting them.   Some of them have been on the bus for 5 hours and are relieved to finally arrive.  Some are nervous, others are exhausted, but most are excited to be here, and we are excited to see what God has in store for them the next seven days.  Tuesday afternoon is one of my favorite times during the week.

Another favorite time is about Friday afternoon when the kids line up outside before coming into the dining hall.  As the piano begins to play they walk in and are getting familiar with the songs playing, and will begin singing praises as they come through the serving line.

One of my favorite songs they sing is from Psalms 1 which says:

"I will delight in the law of the Lord I will meditate day and night,
then like a tree firmly planted I'll be grounded in your word."

How true this is.

This past week I was talking with a young lady who was working in the dining hall.

I asked her how her week has been.

She said "great."

I responded "what made it so great?"  Thinking she would give the normal answer, being with friends, having fun. etc.

But her answer surprised me. She said "My TAWG Time Alone With God on Sunday afternoon. You see I have been struggling with my faith lately and as I was praying and reading I asked God I would like to see a deer.  Within 30 seconds he brought five to me and they laid down within 10 feet of where I was sitting.  That truly showed me that God is and will listen to my prayers."

What a awesome and loving God we serve. That he hears the simple prayers of a 15 year old girl that she might see a deer so he could be glorified and her faith strengthen.  And another story told about His greatness and sovereignty.

I cannot think of a better way to spend my summers than what the Lord has our family doing here at Camp Barakel.

Thank you all for your prayers, encouragement and support.

Blessings
Kieth, Susan & Family
